What is Couples Therapy?

Using a blend of the Gottman Methodand Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), I help couples recognize these patterns for what they are: learned ways of protecting, reacting, or coping when deeper needs aren’t being met.

What we carry into partnership often comes from our own family of origin, past experiences, and attachment styles—and without tools and awareness, it’s easy to get lost in cycles that no longer serve us.

My role is to help you both slow down, understand one another more deeply, and begin learning the skills to communicate, repair, and reconnect. We’ll explore the stories each of you bring into the relationship and create space for new ones—ones built on trust, respect, and emotional safety.

Breakdown of sessions

First session: Intake session

In this session we will explore you and your partner’s background history. We’ll look at the highs and lows of the relationship and set some tentative goals.

​

Second and Third sessions: Individual sessions.

These individual sessions will be with each partner seeing the therapist separately. You will cover more of your personal history and any individual concerns you’d like to discuss. 

​

Fourth session: Feedback Session or Mapping Your Cycle

In this fourth session, we will begin establishing the goals and  tracking your interaction cycle .
